The Southern team won the 2002 British Basketball League All Star game, beating their Northern rivals 196-142 at the Telewest Arena in Newcastle.

The south started brightly, bagging nine of the opening 11 points and gradually built up a 24-point lead by the end of the first quarter, with London Leopards' Rico Alderson chalking up 18.

They maintained the status quo in the second quarter to lead 93-71 at half-time.

The south extended their lead further and enjoyed an 11-0 run in the third to lead 116-84.

Nigel Lloyd scored to take his points tally to eight on the day and 159 in all of his ten All Star appearances, breaking Russ Saunders' former points record.

There was no way back for the north, and Alderson was named the All Star most valuable player for his 34-point, 15-rebound haul.

Brighton's Albert White led all scorers with 38 points.
