THE Jets continue to look nervously over their shoulder after they suffered their second straight BBL Championship defeat last night.

The eight-point reverse at the struggling Raiders means Paul Smith’s side slip to seventh in the standings ahead of this evening’s visit of basement boys London Capital to the Northgate Arena (5.30pm).

Nothing less than victory will do for the Jets if they are to continue to hold off Worthing Thunder and Guildford Heat in the ultra-competitive race for one of the final play-off places.

The Raiders are out of the running for a top-eight finish, but they had too much for the Jets at their Pavilions home.

The visitors, aided by a pair of Chez Marks three pointers, started well and, after shrugging off the effects of their long journey to Devon, raced into 16-4 lead.

But that lead was reduced to a point by the end of the first quarter before the hosts edged a nip-and-tuck second to take a two-point advantage into the locker rooms.

The Jets hit back in the third and went in front with a Jerrah Young bucket. It was the Raiders who led, though, going into the final stanza, in which their coolness from the line proved crucial as they drained 17 free throws to that ultimately won them the match.

Marks, with a game-high 30, scored the lion’s share of the points for the Jets with Colin O’Reilly adding 14 and Shawn Myers 12.
