Roderick Wilmont's proposed move to the Cheshire Phoenix is off after his application for a work permit was refused.

The 31-year-old former NBA D-League guard had been announced as a Nix signing last month but was unable to get the required clearance necessary from English Basketball to play in the BBL, owing to his lack of games in the last two years.

Having spent a large part of his career in the D-League, the feeder league to the world-famous NBA, where he turned out for Erie Bay Hawks before enjoying a successful three years with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Wilmont has not played competitive basketball for over 18 months after pursuing a coaching role in the sport.

His lack of games now means that he will not be joining the Nix as they prepare for a tilt at BBL league and cup glory this season under new head coach, New Yorker John Coffino.

But the Nix, who yesterday announced the capture of the former NBA D-League all-time record points scorer Renaldo Major, look to have assembled a strong squad for the forthcoming season, with Major joining Aleek Pauline, Sasa Cuic, Devan Bailey, Josh McGinn, Demond Watt,  David Aliu and Brad Karp on the roster.
