John Lavery believes that his Cheshire Phoenix side need another two wins to secure a fifth-place finish in the BBL.

The Nix head coach was delighted with the performance of his side in their double-header with London Lions and is now hoping his charges can put together a winning run and claim a top-five spot.

“We knew that both games were going to be tough, especially going down there to the Copper Box, but we stuck to our task and played really well,” said Lavery.

“We still had periods where we were a bit sluggish and slow out of the blocks though, and we need to make sure we get that right.

“We’re in a good position for fifth but I think we need another two, maybe three, wins to seal it. Which we can do.”

Lavery was pleased to see his floor general Reggie Middleton return to action at the weekend after a six- match absence through injury, but praised the strength of his squad to keep picking up wins without their captain.

“It was great to welcome Reggie back,” said Lavery. “He was excellent.

“A few people might have thought we wouldn’t have picked up many wins without him, but we did.

“The guys have been fantastic and kept us going and kept us picking up points when we’ve been without key players. They’ve been excellent.”
