CHESTER Jets slumped to a surprise defeat to Newcastle Eagles on Sunday night - only their second at the Northgate Arena this season.

It came 24 hours after one of their biggest victories of the campaign when they beat Birmingham Bullets at the Aston Events Centre by 31 points.

Jets, who were without Kenny Gregory in both matches as he continues treatment on a knee injury, started the match against the Eagles where they had left off in Birmingham.

But it didn't last and they were only just in front at the end of the first quarter by 30-28.

The lead shrank to just one point at half-time and at the end of the third quarter the Eagles had snatched a one point lead at 72-71.

Jets, usually so strong down the last stretch, found themselves trailing into the final minute and at the buzzer Eagles had clinched a 94-90 victory.

Jets hope to bounce back on Thursday when they cross the Pennines to take on BBL leaders Sheffield Sharks.
