HOLDERS TCS Chester Jets booked their place in the BBL Trophy semi-finals with a 98-97 overtime success over Sheffield Sharks on Saturday.

But the effort it needed to overcome their rivals left them looking jaded on Sunday night when they were pipped at home by Newcastle Eagles in a tense BBL championship match 80-81.

Calvin Davis scored a late free throw to nudge Jets 98-97 in front in Sheffield in the extra period and they held on for the win.

Earlier, Sharks' Nate Reinking calmly slotted two free throws with three seconds remaining to force the extra period.

On Sunday, it was touch and go from tip to buzzer before the Eagles won at the Northgate Arena for the second time this season.

Eagles, without the injured Shawn Myers,led 15-8 after the opening exchanges before eight unanswered points by the home side saw them in to the lead.

Eagles hit the first seven points of the second quarter,only to be pegged back by the Jets by half-time. It remained the same right until the death when Billy Singleton was fouled with 1.6 seconds left in the game and the Jets 79-81 behind.

Facing the seocnd overtime session in 24 hours, Singleton missed the first foul shot and that left the Jets one point short.

Calvin Davis and Eagles' TJ Walker led the way with 21 points each.
