CHESTER Jets slumped to their first defeat of the season last Saturday, but head coach Robbie Peers couldn't be happier.

He admitted his side was 'outplayed and outcoached' at Leicester Riders, but the set-back, which ruined the club's 100% record in the British League, provided the test of character he was looking for.

And the players passed it with flying colours as they bounced back on Sunday to beat Newcastle Eagles to reach the semi-finals of the National Cup in Coventry.

'I am starting to find out the sort of people I have on board and I couldn't be more pleased,' he said. 'The first league defeat was bound to happen sooner or later, but they way we bounced back in the cup was very pleasing.

'In the first month of competition we are top of the league and in a cup semi-final. We are in a fantastic position.'

Jets take another break from league action tomorrow when they make the long trip to Brighton in the first match of their BBL Trophy defence.

They are in a pool of seven with the top four clubs going forward to the next stage.

But Peers still has injury problems with Pero Cameron (calf), James Hamilton (back), John Thomas (achilles tendon) and Calvin Davis all under treatment and unable to train this week.

Jets resume in the league at Edinburgh Rocks next Thursday night.
