Cheshire Phoenix head coach John Coffino says he was 'proud' of his sides efforts following their resounding 99-69 triumph at Surrey United on Friday night.

Coffino's men came out of the traps quickly at Surrey Sports Park and dominated the contest throughout to see them to a fifth straight win in the BBL, a triumph that moves them up to third in the BBL Championship.

Taylor King's 21 points paced all scorers, with David Aliu adding 20 and Mike Di Nunno scoring 16, while impressive debuts were had by new Phoenix recruits Simeon Naydenov and Adrien Sturt.

"The guys came out blazing from the start," said Coffino.

"It was a long trip to Surrey, who had a good win against Bristol previously, but we played some great team basketball and I was proud of the performance.

"Surrey had a few strong weapons in their arsenal and had a new guy in (Anthony) Downing, but we stuck to our game plan and the guys came through and played really well."

The Nix dominated from the outset, quickly establishing a double-figure lead at 11-21 on stern defensive play, with King and Aliu connecting at the other end in an 8-0 run. That run became 13-1 and the visitors led 12-26 after the first ten minutes.

They were equally dominant in the second quarter, taking a 23-42 lead midway through on six unanswered points, and the lead was twenty by the half at 34-54. Surrey threatened to eat into that deficit after the break, but a 7-2 run including an Aliu triple halted them in their tracks and made the score 42-63.

Cheshire poured in 32 points in a high-scoring fourth quarter, throughout which they were comfortable in victory.

Coffino, who was without Julius Hodge through injury, was pleased with the contribution of his new signings Sturt and Naydenov and the depth that they, along with fellow new recruit Paul Sturgess who is yet to make his debut, bring to the club.

"A deeper bench is something that I have always wanted," he said.

"I want to be able to rest some of my veteran guys in some games and having a deeper rotation will allow me to do that. The bench is vital to our quest. You can have things like foul trouble or injuries happen during the course of a season, so having a bench will mean that we can cope with things like these a bit easier.

"We are playing our kind of basketball at the moment and things are going well for us."
