Cheshire Phoenix have secured the services of Jamell Anderson for the 2016/17 BBL season.

The 6'7' forward has spent the past five seasons at BBL Champions Leicester Riders and is the second signing for head coach Colin O'Reilly and his new look Phoenix.

Anderson was named as the Best British Player in the BBL by the Basketball Journalists Association, the Pete Jacques Award. Anderson was also named in the All-Defensive BBL Team of the Year last season.

The Former Great Britain international said: "I am very excited to get the new season under way, the Cheshire Phoenix staff have been very welcoming.

"Im going to feed off the experience of Colin O'Reilly and the on court leadership of Josh Wilcher, I will give everything I have have for the team to be successful.”

Anderson's arrival follows that of experienced guard Wilcher last week who became O'Reilly's first signing after joining following a spell in the BBL with Plymouth University Raiders.

Coach O’Reilly said: “Jamell fits a number of needs for us. He is a top level defender, and brings championship experience to our club which is huge for us while building our team.

"Jamell has great versatility where he can play multiple positions, which will fit greatly with the other players on the roster.”

General manager James Brice also expressed his delight at securing one of the BBL's premier British talents as the club look to mount a challenge for silverware this coming season.

Brice said: “ This is a fantastic signing for the club. Jamell has proven during his time in the league what a great professional he is. He will be an instant hit with our fans and the wider community.

"We are very excited to have Jamell a part of what we are hoping to build at the Phoenix.”
