Cheshire Phoenix have continued their recruitment drive ahead of the new BBL season with the capture of 18-year-old England international Sedale Hanson-Young.

After shining in junior basketball, point guard Hanson-Young has been given the chance to make a name for himself in the professional game having represented England at every level, including being a member of both the under-16s and U18 sides at the FIBA European Championships, where he played on the same side as current Bristol Flyers rising star Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye.

A prolific scorer, Hanson-Young has fashioned a reputation as one of the leading UK point guards outside of the BBL and will support new signing Sean McGonagill, who is expected to be a starter, in the role.

Head coach John Lavery said: "We are looking forward to working with Sedale, he is an extremely talented young man and we are excited to be part of his development of what looks to be a bright future. He will also be a fantastic role model to our new junior program."

Hanson-Young, who adds to a Nix roster that includes McGonagill, captain David Aliu and UK guard Martyn Gayle, will continue his education at Bournville College playing in the Elite Academy Basketball League for Team Birmingham.

The Nix have targeted a number of new recruits, with a forward plying their trade in the South American leagues and another forward with NCAA Division One experience, among the targets that could be announced in the coming weeks.
