Cheshire Phoenix produced a strong finish to overcome Worcester Wolves with a 94-85 victory in the BBL Championship.

The win ends a run of five straight defeats in the league for Phoenix as they boost their positioning within the top eight - just two points off the top four.

Kinu Rochford had another big game for Cheshire after racking up 31 points along with 14 rebounds and five assists. Danny Huffor weighed in with 23 points and Akeem Ellis had 22.

After an even opening period, Cheshire, who progressed in the BBL Trophy with a win at Leeds Force on Thursday night, made a strong start to the second and established an 11-point advantage.

Worcester cut the gap to just four going into half-time and began firing on the offensive end in the third by racking up 31 points in the quarter.

The visitors led by as many as six in the third, but a late three from Ellis ensured the teams were tied heading into the fourth.

Cheshire were down by five early in the fourth, but put together a 12-3 run to take control and they would never trail again.

Worcester came into the game following a hard-fought overtime win in Bristol less than 24 hours earlier, and felt the effect late on in the game.

Pavol Losonsky led his side with 28 points and 10 rebounds but the Wolves suffer their sixth loss in the league to fall further behind the top two while Cheshire move to a 7-11 record.

Head coach John Lavery said: "It was a tough game, it could have swung either way.

"I think we executed well down the stretch and played well as a team and deserved to come away with the win.

"The support from the crowd was absolutely fantastic, it helps myself and the guys immensely. All credit to everyone who was there tonight."
