FORMER Cheshire Jet Shawn Myers today signed for BBL Championship rivals MK Lions.
The 41-year-old 6ft 6ins forward has been a regular at Jets home games this season as a spectator despite Paul Smith opting to replace him with younger legs.
During the last campaign he was a central figure in the Jets ability to reach the BBL Cup and Trophy finals and the BBL playoffs, filling the gap left by the lengthy injury problems of James Hamilton.
Now the free agent, who has also played for Newcastle Eagles, has opted to join Vince Macaulay's Lions organisation.
Myers will replace another veteran, long time Lion Robert Youngblood who has left the club by mutual consent. Lions Head Coach Mike New is delighted with his new signing. "When it was clear we would need a replacement for Robert I had no hesitation in signing Shawn.
"He is strong, big for his position and extremely aggressive on the basketball court. I am sure his style will compliment the team ethos." Lions Chief Executive, Vince Macaulay added: "The team is developing nicely, a set of hungry players who want to do well.
"While it was very unfortunate that Robert Youngblood was unable to continue his commitments to us, we wish him the very best for the future and right now I am very happy with the blend of the team.
"Shawn is exciting and will give us added athleticism." Myers will make his debut tomorrow (Saturday) when the Lions visit Plymouth Raiders in the BBL Championship.
