THE Cheshire Junior Jets have received their player awards from last season – and two youngsters have been handed a chance with the first team.

Lewis Halpin and Joe Wilson both play for the Jets under 16s team but have been told they will be used as senior bench players for the forthcoming BBL Championship season.

And while they are unlikely to get many minutes as the bigger, more experienced stars take charge, any chances they do get will raise their stock considerably.

In last year’s English Basketball League Northern Premier the Cheshire Jets U16s were second, having won 13 of their 16 matches, missing out to champions Manchester Magic in the play-off final.

The U15s were also second in the Northern Division before being knocked out in the play-off quarter finals and is was a similar story for the U14s, who made it to the second round of the play-offs.

It was a season of high achievement for the junior section, with the U13s just missing out on the play-offs in the North West Conference.

The Jets U16s girls also impressed finishing second in the Northern Division before falling in the quarter-finals of the playoffs.

At a special awards party, the players received their Most Valuable Player awards and other trophies of recognition.
