Chester Jets' bid for a sixth trophy in 18 months was dashed at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena on Sunday.
The holders were beaten 89-79 by Brighton Bears in the final of the British Basketball League's National Cup.
It was a close contest in the first half, but the Bears took control in the third quarter to lead by nine.
Jets tried to fight back in the final quarter and two three-pointers from Pero Cameron gave them brief hope, but in the end Brighton were worthy winners.
Jets have another chance to pick up some silverware in the BBL Trophy which they also hold. They are in the semi-finals with the final due in March in Sheffield.
