New signing Donatas Visockis made an impressive start to his Nix career, playing a key role in the win over Newcastle Eagles.

Lithuanian centre Visockis, 27, had only one training session with his new team-mates but the big man had an immediate impact.

He scored 11 points and pulled down 18 rebounds and the Eagles struggled to cope with the his 6ft 10ins frame.

Visockis replaces Kai Williams, who left the Nix last week following a breakdown in contract talks.

His last club was Papa John’s Omonia Nicosia in the Cypriot A Division and he has previously played for Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and Cardinal Gibbons. He has also played in Spain, France and Belgium.

Head coach John Lavery was full of praise for his new recruit, who has already been dubbed The Don.

“Don has come in and done a fantastic job,” he said.

“He brought a quality we have been missing this season and his work made the whole team click.

“He adds a power dimension that takes some of the responsibility off Vic Moses and he makes sure we pick up more of those vital second-chance points off the rebound.

“He is also a tough guy to get around on defence and I think the Eagles were not prepared for him at all.

“Hopefully, he is going to help spark the second half of the season for us.”
