The West Cheshire Badminton Performance Centre celebrated its fifth birthday with a day of activities at David Lloyd Cheshire Oaks.

The performance centre was the 14th to be accredited and is one of only 36 currently running across the country.

All performance centre players and their families were invited to attend the day, as well as players and guests from the partner clubs of the PC – Millbrook EYPC Junior Club, Beacon Junior BC, Bidston Juniors, Christleton and Neston.

The PC is sponsored by FZ Forza, a Danish Badminton Equipment manufacturer.

The managing director of GB operations is Steve Butler, himself a past international player and national coach.

Steve joined in the activities, helping the players improve their skills and giving them the benefit of his vast experience.

He was assisted with the coaching, by Emmy Bong, an ex-Malaysian junior player, now living in the UK. Emmy also spoke to the players about the differences between badminton in the UK and in Malaysia.

Also in attendance were Alyssa Lim and Matthew Nottingham, two current GB players and Olympic hopefuls.

All of the players had a chance to hit with Alyssa and Matt during the day, as well as watching demonstrations of an international level training session with Steve and Alyssa and being able to chat to them about their international training and competition.
