Super slimmers from Tarvin have celebrated losing 30st between them by raising money for charity.

Members of Tarvin’s Slimming World group have been taking part in the national campaign Slim for Good which runs across all 11,000 Slimming World groups in the UK and Ireland, to raise funds for DEBRA – a charity dedicated to caring for people suffering from the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa.

The aim of the six-week drive, which kicked off on February 24, was to help people to lose weight and improve their health, raising money at the same time.

Group leader Vicki Page, who has lost nearly two stone with Slimming World, said the Slim for Good campaign gave members of the group an added incentive to achieve their weight-loss dreams.

“Supporting a worthwhile cause like DEBRA has given everyone a special focus and real commitment to their weight-loss goals.

“For many members, being sponsored has been a great way to kick start their weight loss and for others it’s been a boost to help them stay on track.

“At Slimming World we pride ourselves on the care and support we give each other to lose weight – we’re known as the club with the big heart – so when members started talking about raising money for DEBRA and what we could all do together, there really was no stopping us.

“I’m so proud of what the members in the group have achieved,” she said.

Brigitte Williams, manager of the DEBRA charity shop in Chester, said: “We would like to thank Slimming World Tarvin group for choosing DEBRA as their charity.

“The money raised will go towards essential research into EB and also fund items to help dress the blisters and sores.”
