People will be able to find out more about how hazardous waste is made safe at an open day this weekend.

Veolia on Bridges Road, Ellesmere Port, is opening its gates to visitors on Saturday, September 21 from 10am to 3pm.

The company’s state of the art high temperature incinerator, which can treat 100,000 tonnes of hazardous and non-hazardous waste a year, is described as one of the most technically advanced in Europe.

The plant is regulated by the Environment Agency and the Health and Safety Executive and Veolia says it conforms to ‘very strict and exacting standards’.

Waste arrives from sectors including the manufacturing, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

The company says there will be lots to see and do with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and activities to keep the kids busy too.

Guided tours will be running throughout the day so visitors can discover how Veolia takes care of hazardous waste.

For health and safety, all visitors must wear long-sleeved and long-legged clothing with suitable footwear which covers their feet.

No high heels or sandals are allowed.

All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

To pre-book call Veolia on 0203 567 4500.
