The effort to replace a gutted Scout hut following a blaze has drawn help from an unexpected but generous source - Nice ‘n’ Naughty in Chester.

Adult store Nice ‘n’ Naughty, on Brook Street, has donated a gift basket containing 50 Shades of Grey-themed goodies worth £250 and £150 worth of gift vouchers as lots for an online auction Saughall Cricket Club is holding to raise money for temporary accommodation for the village’s numerous clubs.

The Scout hut on Fiddlers Lane was used by more than 20 community groups, including Saughall Cricket Club, karate, cubs and Brownies.

But fire ripped through the building as elderly members of the Friday Club were tucking into their lunch on January 30, leaving the groups homeless.

A purpose-built community and sports pavilion is in the pipeline for the village but the cricket club is spearheading the effort to set up a large Portakabin in the meantime.

A spokesperson for Nice ‘n’ Naughty Chester said: “We are delighted to be supporting Saughall Cricket Club at such an awful time for them and the community that relies on the Scout Hut for functions and group meetings.

“We urge everyone to join the auction and help raise as much money as possible for a very needy course.”

As well as the Nice ‘n’ Naughty lot, other prizes up for grabs include a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce for the evening, tickets to see Cheshire Phoenix play and hotel stays.

Martin Huxley, fundraiser for Saughall Cricket Club, said: “When we heard about the fire it was heartbreaking as so many groups relied on the facility.

“Since then though, I have been astounded at the generosity of local businesses who have offered to donate prizes to our fundraising auction.

“I would especially like to thank Simon and Trish from Nice ‘n’ Naughty for their most generous donation.

“I know that money raised will make a huge difference to the people of Saughall and it is in no small part thanks to people like them.”

Any surplus money raised by the auction will be used to improve training facilities at Saughall Cricket Club.

If you don’t want to take part in the auction but wish to purchase from www.nicennaughty.co.uk, quote Saughall as the discount code and ten per cent of the sale will go towards the Scout Hut replacement.

The auction goes live on Friday, March 14, and bids close at 10pm on Sunday, March 29.
