British golfer James Morrison had a pretty good tournament at Wentworth’s BMW PGA championship this year.

He didn’t win the big prize – but he did win a special BMW i8 for scoring a hole in one.

Producing 357bhp and 420lb ft of torque from its 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and front-drive electric motor, the standard BMW i8 hybrid costs from £104,540. Morrison’s prize was a Protonic Red Edition, a limited edition i8 that’s due to go on sale in the UK this September at a tidy £112,535.

The Japanese market is getting its own version of BMW’s superb hybrid sports coupé in the form of this Celebration Edition, built to commemorate the German manufacturer's 100th anniversary along with six other limited-edition models already unveiled by BMW.

Frozen Grey metallic accents and 20in alloy wheels in Orbit Grey contrast with the Protonic Red paint. Inside is Carpo black leather with red stitching, carbonfibre trim and door sill plates bearing each car’s serial number.

Just 20 cars will be built by BMW Japan and released to the market in October at around £135,000 each.
