Plans are still under way for the fourth Malpas Arts and Literature Festival – despite a couple of teething problems.

Organisers Maureen Oakden and Diana Mather have faced a few setbacks in arranging this year’s event, due to take place on May 15-18, due to Diana’s shoulder operation and Maureen undergoing surgery for a new hip.

But it’s not stopped the line-up of names expanding, as two more faces have now been added to a set list which already includes singer Barbara Dickson, BBC broadcaster Mark Radcliffe and folk band Fairport Convention.

Raconteur, QC and author John Bromley-Davenport will be performing his one man show, recalling Tales From The Bar as well as reading from his new book Space Has No Frontier based on the life of Sir Bernard Lovell, as will The Journey Man, who will be telling tales of Cheshire at Oakden’s Wine Bar.

Other special guests include Sunny Ormonde and Lillian Bellamy from BBC Radio 4’s The Archers who will give an eclectic one woman show, and writer Felix Francis, ahead of the publication of his ninth novel.

This will the fourth year of Malfest, a celebration of the arts.

Diana said: “Running a festival is always a demanding job, but with two of the committee members in hospital, the job wasn’t made any easier with two of us in hospital!

“The aim of Malfest is to bring a wide variety of accessible culture to this lovely rural area, allowing the people of Malpas and its environs the chance to see class acts at affordable prices.”
