YOBS hurled a large brick at a fire engine narrowly missing the crew onboard.

Firefighters from Nantwich, who were covering the Ellesmere Port area, were targeted by youths as they arrived at a rubbish fire in Sutton Way at 5.11pm on Sunday.

Crews are now liaising with police over the attack and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or have any information to come forward.

John Salt, group manager for Cheshire West and Chester said: “Any attacks on our crews not only risks the lives of our firefighters but they also threaten the safety of the community they are trying to protect.

“We put a lot of effort into working with young people so they understand the life-saving role our staff provide and we will continue to take practical action to deter attacks and limit the risks to our firefighters.

“I would urge anyone who saw what happened yesterday to contact the police so that the culprits can be caught and prosecuted.”
