THE creative mind behind one of this year’s main Chester cultural attractions has been nominated for a Your Champions accolade.

Kristine Szulik, who has organised the Chester Giants festivals, which have seen sculptures up to 14ft paraded through the city, has been put forward for the Champion Person of the Year category.

In addition, the collective team that makes up the Chester Giants has also been chosen as a candidate for the Champion Team of the Year.

A delighted Kristine, upon receiving news of the nomination honour, said: “I am very surprised. It’s very nice that somebody has thought to vote for me, it’s fantastic and lovely.

“I think, certainly for the Giants, it has been shown what people can do together. It has been great to show how much community support there has been for the project.

“It’s nice people have enjoyed it – they have taken it to heart and especially with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year, it has been great to be part of something national.”

Peter Moore-Dutton, who nominated Kristine and the Giants, said the reason for nominating was for ‘giving communities the opportunity to get involved in events and create something they can be proud of’.
