FUNDRAISING youngsters from an Ellesmere Port primary school have been nominated for a Your Champions award.

For the past couple of years children at The Acorns Primary School on Pooltown Road have been working their socks off to raise funds for local charities in the area, and this year alone have generated more than £2,000 through their efforts.

Money raised through cake sales, DVD nights, non-uniform days and raffles has all gone to help charities including the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and Northern Lights Children’s Charity and toward research into bone cancer and Bell’s palsy.

Denise Bird, who works as a teaching assistant at the school, nominated Little Acorns in the Champion team category.

She said: “This school year has been amazing. The children wanted to raise £1,000 for charity and they have already doubled that.

“It’s all down to the children, they are just amazing, it’s a real community school and everyone wants to get involved.

“Everything they do is all in the hope of helping others; we have had some support from companies who donate prizes for us to raffle but they’re all hard workers.”

Denise, who is also chairwoman of the school’s PTA, added: “I think it would be nice to highlight the children at this amazing school and the support they give to local charities.”
