A SPORTING Chester teenager who has come on in leaps and bounds has been nominated for a Your Champions award.

Amy Williams, 14, is a double English Schools Championships winner, going further in the long jump than intermediate and senior winners.

The Queen’s School pupil is dedicated to the cause and currently trains four times a week in Manchester – an 80-mile round trip – in her efforts to go that little bit further.

Her proud father Stuart, a PE teacher, said: “Amy will be thrilled to learn of the Your Champions nomination.

“She always likes to train, even when on holiday she will find the nearest athletics track, she never misses out.

“Amy is currently ranked third in Great Britain at under 20s, having given up playing netball to concentrate on athletics.

“She is the best U15 – even U17 – athlete in the long jump and the triple jump, and it would be nice to see her go for the 2016 Rio Olympics.”

Mike Bell, who nominated Amy, said: “No Chester athlete has ever won a gold in the English Schools Championships. Amy has won twice in the last two years! She inspires others.”
