PEACOCK brains and stuffed dormice were just two of the delicacies awaiting diners at a Roman banquet in Winnington Park Primary School during the last week of term.

Fortunately the dormouse was made from sausage meat and the peacock brains from jelly but everything else on the menu would definitely have pleased a delicate Roman palate.

Year 4 teacher Gareth Davies, who helped organise the gourmet bash, said the children had been studying Roman Britain all term and it was decided a feast would be an excellent way to round things off.

“Once they realised they wouldn’t be eating dormice and peacocks’ brains they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
