MARTIAL ARTS: According to coach Paul Williams 2008 could be a big year for his 13-year-old karate student Mason Burke, who lives at Winsford.

Mason recently became a black belt scoring more points in the tests than 40 other contenders from across the country.

“He’s a talented lad with a great future,” said Williams.

Fans’ pitch battle

FOOTBALL: Winsford United’s Barton Stadium will stage the Northwich Vics-Witton Albion derby on Sunday – and it may prove more important than the real thing.

The game is between supporters’ teams from the two rival clubs, so there is more than just honour and bragging rights at stake – this time it’s personal!

What’s more the match will raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice, with Barclays Bank offering to donate the same amount as the event raises.

Greg Marshall, from Witton and Vics fan Andy Woolley came up with the idea. Kick off is 1pm.

Lesson for A team
