Work has begun on an old school playing field to develop it into a community recreation area.

The facilities in Pulford will include an all-weather path bordered by beds of wild flowers and ornamental trees together with a children’s play area.

Councillor Jean Ewins of Poulton & Pulford Parish Council believes the facility will make a huge difference to local residents of Poulton, Pulford and Cuckoo’s Nest.

She said: “This project will give a real boost to the people of Poulton, Pulford and Cuckoo’s nest. It will provide an all-inclusive recreation area for adults and children alike including an open space for village events. It is fantastic that local people together with organisations such as WREN, Sanctuary Housing and the Westminster Foundation have awarded us sufficient funding to enable us to see our new recreation area taking shape over the course of the next few weeks.”

Richard Smith, WREN’s grant manager for Cheshire, said: “It’s always nice to see works start on something we have funded. We’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile project and look forward to it benefitting young people and families across Pulford and the surrounding villages.”

Cllr Ewins hopes the project will be available to use by the end of July and would like to acknowledge the huge amount of local support including offers of financial and practical help.
