A WOMAN has admitted stealing three bottles of wine from the Ellesmere Port branch of Asda.

Sara Lowe, of Blacon Avenue, Blacon, Chester, admitted going into the McGarva Way store in the early hours of June 14 before leaving with the bottles, collectively valued at £13.50.

Chester Magistrates Court heard on Friday Lowe, 34, had gone into the store at 2am.

Rob Youds, prosecuting, said: “The store guard suspected seeing items under her coat. One bottle dropped shortly after she left the store and smashed.

“She met two men and police officers approached. She crouched down and tried to hide the other two bottles behind her back, but dropped those and they smashed as well.

“She was heavily intoxicated and answered ‘no comment’ to all questions in the interview.”

In Lowe’s defence, the court heard she had been at Stoak Lodge, Ellesmere Port, when a fight broke out the evening before the theft and she was punched in the face.

After that Lowe, who had a history of alcohol problems, had her first drink for some time and became very intoxicated.

Magistrates handed Lowe an 18-month conditional discharge and told her to pay £13.50 compensation to Asda and court costs totalling £100.
