HOT on the heels of the Olympic Torch relay, Cheshire West and Chester is now gearing up to welcome the White Ribbon UK Baton, which is to travel through the borough on Tuesday, July 3.

Just like the Torch, the baton is travelling the length and breadth of the country, through towns and cities, before finishing its relay in London in time for the Olympic opening ceremony, all with the aim of raising awareness about violence against women.

Cheshire West and Chester recently achieved the White Ribbon Partnership Award, demonstrating that its communities, public, private and third sector organisations all stand firm against domestic violence.

The baton arrives from Worcestershire on Tuesday and will visit key locations across West Cheshire before continuing to Denbighshire.

The White Ribbon baton will visit the following locations:

10am: Civic Square, Ellesmere Port, where the Our Place team will be staging a local relay and tree decoration events.

1pm: Cheshire West and Chester Council’s HQ building where the baton will be met by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Pamela Booher, councillors, council staff, and representatives from partner organisations.

3pm: Northwich Memorial Hall where Cheshire Police and Domestic Abuse Services are leading on local activities.

4pm: The Lifestyle Centre in Winsford where partners will lead tree decorating.

Any group or organisation that would like to take part should contact the council’s Chester area team on 01244 972859 or email michelle.talgam@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk.
