AN INITIATIVE has been set up so adults and young people with mobility or learning difficulties in West Cheshire have the confidence and training to travel independently by foot or by public transport.

High schools, special schools, colleges and adult centres have been involved in the project, with training provided and developed by Pentra Services Limited and Petty Pool College in partnership with the new Cheshire West and Chester Council scheme.

So far training has been given to more than 100 people and the project is being rolled out across West Cheshire.

Cllr Lynn Riley, executive member for community and environment, said: “The specific one-to-one training aims to boost personal confidence and skills so that people receiving the training can travel with greater independence and improve their quality of life.

“Being able to either walk or use public transport is a key life skill that most of us take for granted.

“This initiative aims at providing support to many people so that they can easily get to schools, colleges, work placements and look for a job.”

Adults and young people recently benefited from this successful initiative and some of the training took place at adult centres at Stanney, Coronation and Flatt Lane community centres in Ellesmere Port and Neston Community Centre.
