Residents at Wealstone care home in Chester enjoyed a night of glitz and glamour including the full ‘red carpet’ treatment at a Hollywood-inspired night of fine dining and entertainment.
Residents at the CLS-run care home in Upton got into the star spirit by posing for an Oscar-themed, VIP entrance photograph, before being greeted by a life-size Elvis Presley statue.
The evening kicked off in style with a champagne reception followed by a three-course Hollywood menu fit for an A-list celebrity, including catchphrase culinary concoctions such as ‘What’s Up Duck soup’ and ‘Sunset Boulevard Salmon’.
Residents, joined by their families and friends, were then treated to an Elvis impersonator, who took to the stage to perform some hip-swinging classics, which had the older people, including 94-year-old Cecilia Morris, back on the dance floor, just like the good old days.
George Basford, 77, originally from Chelsea, said: “The evening was lovely. I was so chuffed when everybody joined in on a surprise ‘Happy Birthday’ sing-along for me. It’s not often you get to celebrate your birthday with Elvis!”
Susan Dutton, home manager at Wealstone, added: “It really is so rewarding to see all the residents having fun together.
“Occasions like these are great for encouraging social interaction among older people, as well as an excellent opportunity for the residents to try something new. A huge thanks to all who made it possible.”
