ENERGETIC volunteers from Ellesmere Port are being sought to take part in this year’s Virgin London Marathon for charity.

The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is appealing for anyone who can raise funds for the charity by taking part in the national event held in April.

Helen Higginson, the hospice’s community fundraiser, said: “We are encouraging all of our hospice runners to raise £1,500 in sponsorship.

“The hospice needs to raise the daily amount of £6,800 to enable us to provide our vital services totally free of charge and we would be grateful to anyone who is willing to offer their support to help us achieve this goal.”

Volunteers will be sent a pack of fundraising ideas and inspiration, sponsor forms, along with a training plan for all fitness levels and a running vest.

There will also be the opportunity for the runners to meet before the marathon to exchange inspiring experiences and stories.

And personal trainer Mike Searle, who has run the marathon many times, gives last-minute tips and hints on training and sustenance.
