Helsby Golf Club Powered Wheelchair Appeal celebrated its extraordinary success in style at its annual black and white evening.
The charity, which started in 1982, has raised more than £1.2m to give disabled youngsters across the North West greater independence and mobility.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Appeal’s 317th and 318th specially adapted wheelchairs to local deserving boys Sean Dolman,12, from Widnes and Toby Griffiths, 15, from Alsager.
Members and friends of the club got to rub shoulders with Mark Eccleston, a silver medal-winner in the tennis doubles at the 2004 Paralympics and now the disability PE teacher at Chesnut Lodge School in Widnes where Sean is a pupil.
Kathryn Hoather, from the appeal, said: “The evening was a huge success and it was great to see Sean, Toby and their families receive the powered wheelchairs which will make such a difference to their lives.
“It was also great to hear from Paralympian Mark Eccleston as several of his pupils have previously received powered wheelchairs from the appeal and they have enjoyed sporting success using the chairs.”
The appeal was crowned Champion of Champions at the Trinity Mirror/ScottishPower Your Champions awards in 2011.
