THE winter is drawing in, but the heat is turning up on Wrexham's Caribbean contingent to show what they can do.

But despite a mixed start to the season for the three Trinidadian players striker Hector Sam, midfielder Carlos Edwards and defender Dennis Lawrence everyone is working hard to make them a success.

"All I can say is that Hector, Carlos and Dennis are all very good players," said their agent Mike Berry.

"As the old saying goes, good footballers don t become bad overnight. These lads have had a lot to deal with coming from the other side of the world, but given a run in the team they can do"

Even though the fans jury is still out on the samba boys, Dragons manager Denis Smith, as with the rest of the squad he has just inherited, isn't making snap decisions.

Smith said: "It's hard to ask young lads to come in from a different culture and a totally different way of playing football its asking a lot for them to do it game after game that quickly.

"Carlos was given space on the wing against Reading last week, but he didn t do what I expected him to.

"But I can't make a judgement on the lad yet, he's just had a new baby and he s only played two matches for me.

"Okay, in those two games he didn't do it that doesn't mean he can't do it. In the end we'll just have to wait and see

Big defender Lawrence was man of the match in the first game of the season against Oldham and was offered a contract with Bolton.
