PLANS are under way for a town-wide parade and party that will transform Whitby Park into a sea of red, white and blue on Sunday, June 3.

Celebrations will start at 11am with a spectacular one-hour procession of musicians, street performers and vintage vehicles, beginning at Westminster Bridge.

On arrival at Whitby Park, the parade will be greeted by a performance from Ellesmere Port Silver Band – kicking off a free afternoon of fun and festivities.

Activities will include pony rides, a dog show, mini fairground, ‘big bunting challenge’ and the popular annual BMX competition, run by Big Bill’s Bikes.

Event organiser Gemma Dunn, from Ellesmere Port and Neston association of voluntary and community organisations (Epnavco), said: “We are currently trying to get residents involved in the parade and would love for people to dress up and join in with the celebrations.”

Youngsters will be invited to enter a one-off best dressed king and queen competition and music will come courtesy of DJs from Dee 106.3.

The large-scale party is being jointly-organised by Epnavco, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Our Place team, Merseyrail and Western Cheshire Primary Care Trust.

It will also incorporate this year’s Big Lunch, a national initiative to encourage locals to share lunch with neighbours, friends and family.

Organisers are on the lookout for musicians, jugglers, unicyclist, stilt walkers, clowns, face painters, Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, schools and community groups to take part in the parade.

They are also looking for volunteers to help out on the day as stewards and helpers.
