CHRISTOPHER Malcolm and David Ian have announced principal casting for the world premiere of Flashdance – The Musical at the Liverpool Empire.

Taking the lead in the show, running from January 26-31, will be Victoria Hamilton-Barritt. Her West End theatre credits include hits Mamma Mia!, Fame, Desperately Seeking Susan and Saturday Night Fever.

Bruno Langley will play Jimmy. He is best known for playing Todd Grimshaw in Coronation Street, but has also been in Doctor Who and the film The League of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse.

And Bernie Nolan, best known as the lead singer of The Nolan Sisters, rounds up the cast.

Set in Pittsburgh, USA, Flashdance – The Musical tells the story of 18-year-old Alex, a welder by day and ‘flashdancer’ by night, whose dream is to obtain a place at the Shipley Dance Academy.

Based on the hit Paramount film, this unique musical about holding on to your dreams and love against all the odds features an iconic score including Maniac, Manhunt, Gloria, I Love Rock and Roll and the Academy Award winning title track Flashdance – What a Feeling.
