A WHOPPING 1,400 bras were donated by Ellesmere Port ladies to go to women living in third world countries.

The Port Arcades shopping centre has hailed the response to its bra bank appeal which was launched back in August.

Also as part of the initiative a total of £246 has been donated to The Linda McCartney Centre in Liverpool.

Arcades manager Les Lyon said: “We are delighted that the women of Ellesmere Port have donated so many bras.

“The money raised will help The Linda McCartney trust help more in the local community. We are also pleased that the Port Arcades can help support women in third world countries with these bras.”

In total, 82 kilos of bras were collected which will now be distributed to third world countries where the price of a bra is more than it costs to feed a whole family for a week.

Money raised from every kilo of bras was matched by Arcades property owner, Frogmore, as well as the shopping centre itself.
