A DISTRAUGHT couple are appealing for witnesses after they were targeted by two thieves who stole money from their bank account.
The husband and wife, who live in Elton, lost a 'substantial' amount of money after their bank card was taken and used to withdraw cash from their bank.
The couple, who do not want to be named, are urging any witnesses to the theft to call the police or the Crimestoppers hotline.
The man said: 'My wife's bag was stolen from Alvanley. She was at some stables when it was taken, so we feel she was targeted.
'There was a suspicious-looking car seen at the stables about 5pm last Friday that no-one there could identify. It was a light blue, small box-type car with two young men inside.
'The bag was taken and then, between 5.20pm and 5.30pm, a bank card in the bag was used to withdraw cash from our account at the National Westminster Bank in Main Street, Frodsham at the cash machines.
'She had left her PIN number in her bag.
'Someone must have seen them at the cash machine using the card or making any subsequent transactions. We want any witnesses to this.
'Our money is probably lost but we can at least try to catch these people before they do it again.'
He urged any witnesses at the stables or in Main Street by the bank who might have seen the offenders to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or Vale Royal police on 01606 48000.
The husband added: 'This is a problem which is going to get worse the nearer we get to Christmas.'
