Rising stars in a dance school whose previous students are currently appearing in West End shows, television productions and cruise ship performances have been awarded a £500 grant.

Ness based Wirral Theatre School, established in 1991, has been awarded a £500 grant after applying to the community support scheme at Equilibrium Asset Management in Chester.

The theatre school, which meets in Ness Village Hall, Neston Road, plans to put the money towards improving its facilities including purchasing new music equipment, mirrors and costumes for shows and performances within the community.

The school offers classes for training in all dance subjects as well as singing and acting.

It welcomes pupils of all levels whether they wish to pursue a career in performing arts or just want an enjoyable and healthy hobby.

A delighted principal Denise Skinner said: “We are thrilled to have been successful in our application. The money means that we will now be able to provide equipment and costumes for our pupils.

“Previous students are currently appearing in West End shows, television productions and cruise ship performances. With the £500 grant we will be able to continue helping our pupils achieve their dreams.”

Every year at the North Cheshire Festival the school grants bursaries to children who show potential and who would benefit from further training which they might not otherwise be able to afford.

Andrew Hirst, partner at Equilibrium Asset Management said: “It’s great to see the Chester community support scheme providing tangible benefits to another great organisation within the community.

“We were very impressed by Wirral Theatre School’s application and their plans to improve their facilities. It will be great to see the grant enhancing pupil’s futures as well as entertaining people within the local community.”

The Chester scheme panel meets every quarter to decide on the award of grants, ranging between £100 and £500 to community organisations and charities.

Applications are open for support in the next quarter and close on December 5.
