A 10-YEAR-OLD schoolboy swam and cycled three miles to raise money for the hospital that saved his dad’s life.

Jack Gillard, of Princes Road, Ellesmere Port, took on the challenge for the Liverpool-based Walton Centre, where his father Paul was treated after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

Jack, a pupil at Christ Church CE Primary School, raised £229.91 for the Walton Neurosciences Fund.

He presented a cheque to neurovascular nurse Catherine Stoneley, who had helped his father make a full recovery.

Jack said: “The one-mile swim was definitely the hardest part of the challenge.”

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is the country’s only specialist trust providing neurology, neurosurgery and pain services.

The majority of its patients come from Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales, Lancashire and the Isle of Man, but the centre also treats people from all over of the country who have complex disorders.

Catherine added: “I am so proud of Jack for completing this incredible challenge to fundraise for The Walton Centre.”
