A talent show at an Ellesmere Port pub has raised more than £1,000 for a local charity.

The That’s Entertainment show and charity auction at the Sir Robert pub on Thursday night, April 2, was for the Do it 4 Dawn charity and will eventually be split between the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and local charities.

The charity was set up in November last year in memory of Sir Robert and Horse and Jockey landlady Dawn Holmes, who passed away after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

So well-regarded was Dawn that friends, family and pub regulars banded together in July to raise nearly £3,000 to send her and John on holiday.

Prizes in the auction included a weekend away, Zumba sessions, gift vouchers, Easter eggs and a painting by a local artist. The auction was supported by local businesses Leigh’s Stationers, Charlie Ceramics and Body Committed Health.

The contest was won by 29-year-old Kirstie Thompson with her rendition of Say Something by Ella Henderson. Her prize includes a place performing a full set of songs from her repertoire in the upcoming Do it 4 Dawn concert in June and a cash prize of £100, which Kirstie immediately donated to the charity funds.,

Senior judge John Holmes decided on the night that the standard was so high he would also let the second and third placed acts, Stacey Thompson and Laura Walker, also perform at the concert.

Stacey performed Dear Mr President by Pink and Laura was placed third with Adele’s Someone Like You.
