Residents in Blacon celebrated the arrival of the festive season in style with the annual switch on of its Christmas lights and an evening of entertainment.
The Lord Mayor of Chester Hugo Deynem pushed the button to light up the community’s Christmas tree, which is at The Parade for the second year running.
Residents were kept entertained with an appearance by Father Christmas on his sleigh and carol singing by pupils from all the schools in Blacon. There was also a lights switch on by the shops at Western Avenue.
Sandra Hewitt, Neighbourhood & Locality Officer for Avenue Services organised the event and the Christmas tree was funded from council members’ budgets. Avenue Services also provided festive refreshments after the switch on.
Lee Challinor of Blacon Defibrillator Fund volunteered to support the Santa sleigh.
Head of Avenue Services Paul Knight said: “Avenue Services is delighted to support this community event alongside its partners, which is the second year we’ve had a tree in Blacon. Thanks very much to Cheshire West and Chester Council for providing the tree this year. There was a real festive spirit in the air and we hope all residents enjoyed the entertainment and have a wonderful festive season.”
