SWIMMERS can take part in the world’s biggest fundraising swim at the EPIC Leisure Centre this weekend.

Janice Eastwood, local Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraiser, is encouraging people in the Ellesmere Port area to sign up for Swimathon Weekend 2012 at the EPIC Leisure Centre.

Swimathon Weekend 2012 hits 645 pools across the UK from April 27-29.

In its 25th year, Swimathon has joined forces with British Swimming and BBC’s Big Splash, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief to promote what is hoped will be the biggest Swimathon Weekend ever.

Janice said: “Last year, swimmers who took part across Cheshire and North Staffordshire collectively raised a fantastic £10,500 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

“We’re hoping to do even better this year. It’s not too late for people to sign up and take the plunge, every length you go to will help raise vital funds. Swimming is a great way for people to get fit for the summer and funds raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care will provide free care and support to terminally ill people and their families.”

Swimathon Weekend participants swimming for Marie Curie Cancer Care can choose from the 5k, 2.5k or Team 5k challenges and those opting to raise money for the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief can take part individually or as part of a team to complete the Mile.

Funds raised by doing the Swimathon Distance Challenges will help support Marie Curie Nurses who provide free nursing care to people with terminal cancer and other terminal illnesses.

Today (Wednesday) is the last day for entries at www.swimathon.org
