ALCOHOLIC Spirit has been called Demon Drink and it's the devil's wretched counterfeit of God's Holy Spirit.

The Bible says: 'Don't get drunk with wine, but be filled with the Holy Spirit.' [Ephesians 5:18]

The word spirit means breath.

The first Christians were so full of joy people thought they were drunk, but their breath did not smell - they were actually intoxicated with the holy breath from heaven!

Demon Drink makes a drunkard sing but it's a false joy. He drowns his sorrows in drink but they float again the next day alongside a hangover.

In complete contrast, the Holy Spirit inflates souls with the joy of the Lord, giving them strength and wisdom to face life's problems with a clear brain. [Nehemiah 8:10].

Demon drink gives the drunkard courage to fight anyone, even a lamppost.

But the Holy Spirit produces Christian soldiers with courage to be truthful, honest and morally pure whatever people may think.

For 2,000 years the power of God's Holy Spirit has rescued millions from demon drink.

Take the case of John Edwards, born in 1954.

He says: 'I was an alcoholic, I joined street dwellers in cardboard boxes close to Waterloo Station in London and begged for a living.

'I kept making attempts to get my life back together again but I was sceptical of Christians who tried to help me, not realising they had the answers I needed.

'My father had become an alcoholic and lost everything before he died in 1984. I even missed his funeral but this jolted me into action. I accepted an invitation to attend a Christian meeting and there I had a tremendous encounter with God that turned my life around. I realised Jesus not only died for me but He was still alive today.'

Since then John has helped to found three rehabilitation centres for alcoholics!
