SIXTH-FORMERS at Verdin High School and their teachers sampled free non-alcoholic drinks at the Cheers bar run by Cheshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit.

The bar at the Winsford school aims to promote non- drinking and driving and is in line with the national ‘Think’ road safety campaign which will be promoted on television and radio throughout this month.

Six other Cheshire schools took part in the scheme.

County Councillor Eveleigh Moore Dutton said: “The aim of Cheers is to make students aware that any amount of alcohol can affect their judgement when driving.

“Teaching staff and students will be offered advice as both drivers and passengers.

“Students will also have the opportunity to wear special impairment goggles which simulate the effect of alcohol and will be asked to complete a simple task of walking in a straight line.

“Discussions will also include how strong alcohol, served in large measures, is leading to many people falling foul of the law the morning after.”
