SUPERMARKET staff are spreading festive cheer to troops in war-torn Iraq.

Workers at the Asda Supercentre in Ellesmere Port have been sending out parcels full of goodies, including sweets and toiletries, for the men and women who are putting their lives on the line, which includes the 1st Battalion of Mercian Regiment, formerly the Cheshires.

Events co-ordinator Anne Pryor said: “We had a Christmas party and raised £200 from the raffle. In the past we’ve usually donated the money to charity.

“But a couple of the mums here have sons out in Iraq so we decided to send parcels to the troops. It’s our way of saying we haven’t forgotten about them.”
