A Mollington primary school have added to their trophy haul by winning the Cheshire Finals at Crewe Alexandra.
St Oswald’s Primary School, who this season won the Chester Small Schools Football Champions and also sit top of the Chester Primaryship League, represented Chester and District at the finals last week.
Despite losing their opening match 2-1 against former winners Little Leigh, St Oswald’s won their next game 9-1 against Warmingham Primary School, qualifying with a 3-1 victory over Bradshaw Primary School.
In the semi-final, St Oswald’s edged through against rivals Dodleston to set up a final showdown with their conquerors in the first game, Little Leigh.
After some excellent football from both sides St Oswald's claimed a 2-1 victory which crowned them Cheshire Small Schools champions.
“This is a remarkable achievement for the school and the players involved and we’re over the moon for them,” said Chris Timms, deputy headteacher at the school.
The school will now represent Cheshire at the North England Regional finals in Cramlington in March and, if successful, will progress will compete in the national finals.
