PUPILS at St Martin's Academy aped around to show their colourful support for Chester Zoo's Go Orange for Orangutans campaign on Thursday.

The children were invited to dress in orange for the day and bring in a donation toward the zoo's project  to save the endangered species.

Pumpkins, tigers and lots of cheeky monkeys arrived in the classroom for a day of special activities exploring the orangutan's fight for survival.

Reception teacher Emma Boynton said: "It was great to see the children get into the spirit of the day and find lots of creative ways to bring a splash of orange into the school day.

"We've been doing a lot of work on the topic of mini-beasts recently so it was very exciting to talk to the children about a large and magnificent creature like the orangutan.

"It's really captured their imagination, they've even made up their own song about visiting the orangutans at the zoo. St Martin's official school mascot is Martin the Meerkat who lives at Chester Zoo, so I'm sure the next time we visit Martin we can pop by to say hello!"

St Martin's Academy is holding a pre-booked open evening on Thursday, November 21 at 7pm. Places are limited. To book, please email admin@stmartinsacademychester.co.uk
