A special event is taking place at The Port Arcades, Ellesmere Port, to raise awareness of European Antibiotic Day on Wednesday, November 19.

The event, one of three in the borough, will enable residents to receive advice and information as part of a campaign to stop the overuse of antibiotics.

NHS staff from the Infection Prevention and Control team at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) will be visiting to provide information and support.

Fiona Reynolds, interim director of public health at Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “We urge local people to find out more about the risks of using too many antibiotics.

“Cheshire and Wirral Partnership was recently awarded the contract to provide all infection prevention and control services across our borough because getting these messages out is really important to the health of our local population.”

CWP’s director of Infection, Prevention and Control, Maria Nelligan said:“NHS staff will be advising members of the public about the risks of taking too many antibiotics, which can include building up a resistance to some antibiotics and getting further infections.

“CWP is very excited to be working in partnership with the council and the local community to improve knowledge and understanding on key issues like this.”
